Strategic Communications Officer | Federal Government

  • Hourly Rate: $55.24 per hour + super
  • Location: Richmond, Geelong
  • Contract Length: Until December 2026 (with potential to extend)

Randstad is partnering with a key Federal Government agency to recruit for an APS5 Strategic Communications Officer. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, audience-based messaging that supports major national initiatives. Role Responsibilities

In this position, you will be accountable for organising your own workflow and providing expert policy advice within the communications space. Your duties will include:

  • Content Creation: Drafting clear, concise, and effective messaging for diverse internal audiences and channels.
  • Strategic Planning: Contributing to the development and delivery of multi-channel communication plans and coordinating "go-live" activities.
  • Quality & Accessibility: Championing plain English and ensuring all collateral is accessible and aligns with strict branding guidelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Acting as a trusted adviser to internal stakeholders and business partners to help them achieve project objectives.
  • Project Support: Assisting with project management tasks, progressing approvals, and supporting team members with technical or procedural administration.

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Communications Expertise: Proven experience delivering strategic communications and managing multi-channel strategies within a complex organisation.
  • Writing & Editing: Exceptional written communication skills, including copyediting and the ability to translate complex information into plain English.
  • Independence: The ability to work under limited supervision, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships and resolve moderately complex inquiries with tact and sensitivity.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to use Microsoft Office and government business systems, with an understanding of accessibility requirements.

Mandatory Requirement: Please note that as this is a Federal Government position, Australian Citizenship is required. Candidates must also be willing to undergo a mandatory Pre-Engagement security screening.
